I have a new to me 2022 F250 Lariat CCSB 4X4 with the 7.3l gas engine. It does not have an insulated hood pad. I am not sure if the PO removed it or if the gas trucks didn't come with the pad from the factory. Can anyone enlighten me, please?

They discontinued it on that gen, none came with it. So there is no 2020-22 underhood insulation part available. What some owners have done is to use the 17-19 insulation.
Perhaps you could enlighten me as to the function of the hood pad? I always thought the hood pad was for noise dampening.
Exactly what "longhaultransport" said....if an under hood fire were to happen, the pad will fall from its plastic retainers and attempt to slow down the fire giving the occupants of the vehicle time to escape.
Why do people keep putting forth bad info on the hood pad. It is for sound, and thats it. Order one and it even describes it as a sound barrier, not a melting fire blanket. As newer engines make less noise, they removed them as a cost saving means because they were not needed. People complained because it looks unfinished under the hood so many folks still want them so they came back. On a side note, no it has nothing to do with heat on the hood for paint protection.
It’s all good. This topic comes up every now and then and some still go with fire protection, paint protection, or protecting the hood if something happens in the engine compartment like a thrown belt or ruptured hose. Its only purpose is sound deadening. Some folks use to remove them to better hear the turbo. If you think about it, the clearance between the pad and engine when the hood is closed is minimal and it some cases, it will rest on stuff on the engine. Kind of like the felt wheel well liners that reduce the sound of stuff the tires pick up.
A general Google search, seems the pad has multiple purposes. It is also fire retardant material...to a point.
"Hood insulation's primary purpose is to protect the hood's paint and material from engine heat, reduce engine noise, and, in some cases, help with engine fire suppression"

That sounds like a Google AI answer, based on truths and non-truths from forum discussions like this one.
