Are these systems worth the price or should I really invest in a good compressor ( I already have a good compressor its just not made for painting cars, Quincy 6.5cfm)? I am not a professional, obviously, but I do have a tendancy to piddle with old cars. I have experience with High pressure systems, but have never used a low pressure one. The benifits to the low pressure system makes it desirable, but I don't need a compressor with that much juice for anything except painting. Are these turbine systems a resonable alternative? Can I get decent results? What should I look for in a system?
I bought one, they are great for woodworking but not for automotive as the finish is very textured.
I just painted my sons ATV with an $11 HVLP touch up gun, all it needs is 3 CFM or so to run so if you are not doing a big job it is great. I have 2 big guns but my big compressor burnt up so I bough this little gun just to try. The finish was perfect when done so you don't need a high dollar unit.
If your talking about the ones like from Home Depot I would say no ,I think they would work with some experment with thinning.but the good ones like Capspray,Grayco do a real fine job,did my whole truck with a Capspray. The good ones start at about 600$ and go up from there.
