A long time back I got rid of the stock gas cap for a locking one, and lost the lanyard from the cap, since then I have just been setting the cap on the bed rail or side of the tonno cover.
Today I installed this cap holder off of amazon, fits on the inside of the fuel door, and the cap snaps into it, seems to work pretty well.
I got it for free, been doing reviews for amazon on various products in exchange for the products.

i never was a fan of the hook for the lanyard. does this simply drop in the holder or does it take a little force to snap in?
The cap snaps into the holder, if you look at that pic without the cap you can see the tabs that it snaps into, so it is a positive retention.
As to the amazon reviews deal, I have always written reviews for stuff I buy from amazon and other places that post consumer reviews, gives a place to complain about or to praise products, and I guess amazon watches and reaches out to some customers who do this and they offer to provide products in exchange for honest reviews.
I've done about 18 so far over the last couple of months, they limit how many products you can request, and to keep your status, you have to submit the reviews in a timely manner. There is so much they offer that I have no interest in though.
So, a picky "super moderator" deleted the amazon link to this 2017-2023 F250 F350 fuel cap holder, said I was a amazon affiliate, marketing it because it was a freebie for my review.
So, if anyone is interested, you get to find it yourself.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around needing a locking gas cap....
People now days...steal anything and everything, I'm amazed some need locking lug nuts, some crack head actually thinks he/she/it, can steal a wheel...let along all DAMN 4!!!!!!!!

Some more enterprising ones can...
These were both in the parking garage near my office this past winter.

Locking cap is not just about someone trying to steal fuel though, it is also about protection from vandalism.

Unless you literally look in your fuel cubby every time before entering and turning the key to see if the locking cap has been tampered with would you know that the truck was possibly tampered with till needing fuel?
If an azzhole wants to be azzhole that's not slowing them down "but" if it makes a person feel more comfortable, why not.
Which brings in the next stupid saying..... it keeps the honest....honest.
I'm not afraid to let family and friends use my F-350 if they need its capabilities. I am afraid of them accidently putting gas in it trying to be nice. Hence my locking fuel cap.
They can be nice with food, desserts, or beer....
And what do they do when they are about to run your diesel engine out of fuel??? Go to Denny's?
I guess I'm a lucky one to have lived and traveled in places that the fear of stolen fuel or someone shoving a candy bar in my filler tube have always been low.
