2017 Powerstroke Do It All Build

Hey everyone, long time lurker but first time officially joining and posting. I appreciate all the help over the years, and hope my experiences can help others. I have put a TON of work over the last couple years into this truck in the pursuit to build the perfect work truck/offroad toy/street truck. Basically I need it to be able to haul equipment into difficult locations but I also want to be able to tackle challenging OHV trails, and be self sufficient. I use it regularly for both work (construction and disaster work) and long camping trips. We recently did about 30k miles over 3 months on the road out of this, tackling tons of long off grid camp sites and OHV trails through Moab and AZ. Instead of having multiple vehicles, I decided to build just one.

Overall it’s been an extremely capable rig that has been great to work out of, travel in, and beat on. The power/suspension combo is about perfect for what I do.

Here is an overview of the build:

Performance

- SPE Emperor S370 Ball Bearing Turbo Kit

- Maryland Performance Trans

- North Coast Diesel Performance Converter and Trans tuning

- CPX Pump

- Tuned

- S&B intake

- 5” exhaust

Suspension/Wheels

- Carli 5.5” Backcountry kit

- Carli Swaybar and Endlinks

- Apex Chassis Steering Linkage

- Carli Track Bar

- airlift bags in cradles

- Method 704HD

- 37x13.5R17 Toyo RT Trails

- Full size matching spare in factory location

- Powerstop brakes

Exterior

- Fab Fours Premium bumpers front and rear

-Rocky Road rock sliders

- Rigid radiance scene lighting front, back and ditch.

- 4 Amazon special BD LP9’s up front. Use way more than I thought so budgeting for the real thing, but honestly these things are awesome for the money.

- Superwinch 18k winch / Factor 55

- Diamondback HD Cover

- UpTop bed rack for Diamondback

Stereo

- Kenwood Excelon XR-600 Amp w/ DSP

- Alpine 1000w amp

- Custom amp rack in factor location

- Morel Ultra Tempo front components and rear coaxial

- Alpine 10” slim box behind seat

- LMI Welding rear seat brackets - moved seat forward 2” and up 2.5”.

- Fully sound deadened truck

Power

- 200ah LiFePO6 house batteries

- Renogy nppt mounted to BuiltRight molle panel behind seat

- Solar on top of RTT

- Aftermarket inverter in factory location

- Retrofitted factory under seat storage to work with lift, and installed built in charging capability for drone, Milwaukee chargers, GoPro, etc.

- Starlink integrated to house batteries

Rack Setup

- UpTop Overland diamondback rack

- Freespirit Odyssey RTT

- Reign Outdoors 270 awning and shower stall

- Midnight Forest 8 gallon water tank with pump

- Badlands jack in Motobuilt mount

- Baja Designs scene lights with Kingpin tailgate light

- Rotopax fuel for diesel heater

- Starlink Mini up top

Overall this is about where it sits. There are a couple last changes I plan to make:

- I am looking to switch to a camper shell setup for something a little more usable for everyday needs, that I can then easily drop the RTT on to when needed. The lack of available headroom in the bed has been a problem in the past.

- Upgrade shock package from the Backcountry once they are worn out to either the Eventure or Dominator setup. The back country has been excellent for what I use the truck for now. It’s been a great balance of comfort with added capability. However, as I plan to push the truck more I would really like to increase the capability of the system. The eventure seems like an awesome system with a ton of functionality, but I will probably go to the dominator because it’s a more simple system and why not a 3” shock.

- I have always planned on putting compounds on this truck. I’m leaning towards the Maryland performance compound and piping kit. However, the turbo lag really isn’t as bad as I thought it would be, and may not want to add more complication to it.

- Larger fuel tank is definitely something I want to do, but with how much we wheel the truck, the lost clearance worries me. Looking for a solution and may end up fabricating my own.

- I want to swap the chinesium knockoffs for actual Baja Designs LP9’s as I use those lights a lot more than I thought I would. I am likely going to swap out some of the lights for better customization for different situations. Right now it’s basically all or nothing, which is great for job site lighting and campsites, but not so much for dusty trails or back roads.

- fix my no crank no start issue! Making a separate thread for this.

Thanks again everyone!

I’d be careful with the compound setup. I have the Maryland performance 76mm on my 22 with the stock turbo/cpx stroker and it’s on borrowed time from day one. These 6.7s are absolutely unleashed with a compound. I have a built bottom end coming this month that I’ve been waiting 8 months for.
