Got a question about this "ZooDad" upgrade. you guys think its worth it or not? easy to do? will it let in unwanted debris? hopefully getting a K&N FIPK for christmas along with the TBS to compliment it and want it to work to its maximum efficiancy. thanks for the advice. for all of those who dont know what im talking about its a home made snorkle type set up that is located on the radiator mounts behind the grill. its in the superduty FAQ.
The original "zoodad" mod is just a hole in the fiberglass radiator support. I did it to both my '00 and '01 Super Duty trucks with no ill effects.
The new & improved version includes piping to move air directly into the filter housing. Never did that one myself, but I doubt it would have many more issues.
I did it to my previous 02 7.3 Ex and the current 03 6.0...
on the 7.3 i had driven it enough to notice an improvement in the acceleration when starting from speeds above 30 mph or so...
on the 03, I did it before I was 'trained' on the performance of the 6.0 L but felt it was a nice 3 beer project on a warm sunny afternoon....
also didn't do the piping on either, but I wasn't looking for every ounce of increase - just doing the simple best bang for the buck (and time) mod.....
Haven't done any measured efore and after to quantify any increase, just made sense and 'felt' like it works !
HEY BIGDAWG, I did not remove my grille, just used an extention w/a 2 or 2.5 " holesaw. Also removed some of the rubber stuff covering up the intake hole under the hood. Also opened up the front of the air filter housing by simply cutting some off,so now there is a 4-5" opening instead of the 2.5" or so opening.Sorry i did not get to your question in my gallery earlier, i have been out of town.
