Question Computer errors with different exhaust?

How would it affect the computer if I took the two catalitic converters from being in line in the factory exhaust system and spliting them to run dual exhaust. What I mean is bringing the pipe from the manifolds (v6 3.0) and run one cat on each side before running the pipes through a H-pipe and into either glass packs of turbo mufflers. The truck is a 98 ranger.

thank you to those who can help,

LIL WAGN 98

Did you move the oxygen sensors during this modification? That would cause an error.

Depending on what type of EGR system you have, changing the exhaust can also cause an error. Some EGR systems, instead of having a sensor on the vavle itself, have a pressure sensor hooked in the exhaust line going to the EGR valve. Backpressure in the exhaust runs up through the EGR line, and the pressure sensor reads this pressure. When the EGR opens, there is less pressure. If you run duels on a system like this, there will be little or no backpressure, so the computer gives a fault.

Your truck is OBDII, so it's even more sensitive to any changes. Take it to an autoparts store and let them pull the codes, just to see what's going on. But I have a feeling you will never get rid of this problem unless you put it back stock.

I haven't done anything to the exhaust yet it is still factory. I thank you for informing on possible errors.

My truck has two O2 sencers one in front of the cats and one behind them. How would I position the sencers in the dual exhaust system so there won't be any errors or is it not possible to stop the errors?

Thank You!!!

I really don't think you can do it without risking a computer error. That's why everybody just goes with the cat-back systems. Which side would you put the last oxygen sensor? It reads the combined exhaust gas.

I would also be surprised if you found a shop that would do it for you.

If I put a H-pipe in the system and put the senser in the cross pipe would it read close enough that there wouldn't be an error? I'm thinking this cross pipe would give you a mixed reading of both sides, and leave the first senser in a position close to were it was from the factory.
