I decided to keep her a couple more years. She is garage kept and in darn nice shape. I have an appointment Monday for the DCR pump upgrade. I know the main draw to this pump is keeping the rest of the fuel system safe from metal shavings. But, is the pump also more robust? Just wondering if I still need to consistently run lubricity additives. I have been, and always will drain the water separator at least twice per month.
I assume others who have done this upgrade are happy with it?
I did the DCR upgrade in November of last year when the turbo was replaced.
I figured my '16' with only 72k miles why not.... all the labor cost was getting the turbo out. Unless something unforseen happens the truck will be around for a long while.
Had mine done December 24' in your backyard at a Ford dealer ($1700 w/tax) for labor on the way down to the Keys for the winter. I use my rig to haul a truck camper that is in the bed of the truck 99% of the time that hauls a 6k lb boat nearly as much while in use. Also plan on flat towing a new Bronco out west for a couple months each summer. Truck is not a DD otherwise.
Being stuck on side of the road while out of town waiting on parts for a pump and fuel system is a no go for me.
My take…others differ…for an 11-19 getting rid of the cp4 is a higher priority than 20 and later. 20 and later have pinned cups do they don’t rotate..rotating cups are evident in all cp4 failures.

I live right in the heart of the Big 3. Retired out of Ford where the Engine group was a few buildings away from the studios I worked in while developing these product. Talked to many individuals including the service folks (Truck only Centers) in our area regarding failure rates. Failure rates have not fallen significantly for 20'+ MY's and was told there was only one way to ensure (reasonably) that I would not have a catastrophic failure while out of town.
I know how my local 'Truck Service Facility' answered or responded to my q's regarding warranty coverage of a failed Cp4 pump.
I said f_it I'm going with a S & S replacement and hopefully living happily ever after wards.
Befor some of you go off the rails believe me I don't agree with the 'game'.
My neighbor told me they had millions and millions of improvement based on warratny work to vehicles of a certain manufacturer at their dealership.
You have no idea what's going on.
Consider myself $10 - $15k in the black.
Look up the $million dollar mile. We all live in this area. All are part of the Big 3 machine. You guys who think you know what's going on have no idea.
I need a big diesel to get down to Florida - for 6 months every winter and flat tow a Bronco out west every summer. Not much I can do short of contacting a 3rd party that can ensure I have a better chance of getting my rig back to my home after - 9 months out on the road.
