Hello all! First time poster here so please be patient with me... I acquired a 1989 F-150 4.9L with the Mazda 5 speed a couple days ago. I've had many of these old Fords and love them. This one though I'm having trouble not roasting marshmallows on haha. When you push the clutch in and turn the key to start it will start. When you let off of the key it dies immediately. So I had my wife stand out by the starter solenoid and pull the trigger wire off while I pushed the clutch in and held the key to the start position. She tapped the trigger wire to the solenoid until it started then left the wire off of the solenoid and the truck runs. Then after it ran a minute I let off of the key and it kept running until I let off of the clutch pedal and it stalled. We repeated the same procedure to start it and I revved it a few times then let off the clutch and it continued to run. After shutoff it will immediately start back with the wire reconnected to the solenoid of course. If it sits for and more than 30 seconds or so it goes crazy again. When it will stay running it runs good and drives good I've took it up and down the road a few times. I checked fuel pressure with a gauge and all checks out there. So it is losing spark I'm just not sure what's causing it. I've removed the ignition switch and tested it with a multimeter and all checks good. The clutch switch is questionable for the fact it stalls when released but only sometimes. Also checks out good with the meter. Ignition control module is definitely in question because it looks pretty old and the ignition is losing spark. Another part of this dilemma is that the trigger wire to the starter solenoid shows 8-10 volts when unhooked from the solenoid with the key on when it's acting up. Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated!
