Cool cam?

How do you no if your cam has been upgraded. As i've explained before, I really don't know much about this 400 engine. I know its been rebuilt, and thats about it. I see new pistons, roller timing chain, edelbrock 1405 4 brl carb, streetmaster intake, headers, and how do I know how muc horsepower this thing is throwing at me. It has 38.5 mud tires on it. Thought I'd see if it would turn them on the pavement. It will literally smoke the tires off the rim if I let it. What has this guy done to this motor. Will I have to do a complete teardown to find out? This truck ment alot to him. He ordered it from the factory in 79. I hate the fact that he passed away. I plan to restore this truck complete. I am thankful that I've found this web site. You guys really help, and I thank you all.

It's impossible to tell what cam is in it without pulling the front off the motor and seeing if there are some numbers stamped into the front of it. Depending on what final gear ratio you're at I'd say that motor is putting down some pretty serious torque numbers to light up meats that size. 400's are known for their low end torque so it's not all that surprising and if you've got 4.11 gears then it isn't as hard to do but it seems pretty clear that engine has been "warmed up" some. If you've got some $$ burning a hole in your pocket then find a place locally to chassis dyno it and you'll find out what kind of numbers it's putting out.
