I just bought an 2008 F650 rollback with a Cat and an allison in it. The abs light is on and the shop is having trouble getting scanner communication. The abs motor runs all the time when the key is in the run position,is this normal? Also the brakes feel very hard when driving,I have never driven one like this before so not sure if this is normal as well. Any help would be great.
Are you sure it's the ABS motor and not the electric backup motor? This is hydraulic brakes with an engine driven pump for boost, or boost off the power steering pump, right?
It's definitely hydraulic not air, the motor that's running is mounted to the fire wall and connected to brake master cylinder.I assumed it was the abs pump. It's my first Med duty so I'm not to sure of all the part positions.
Thanks
That sounds like the backup motor. It should only run when the engine is off and your foot is on the brake--or if you were to lose a belt and have no pump.
With a hard pedal and that motor running, IMO you are a kiss away from a total brake failure.
The shop should be able to find SOMETHING that points to this problem, with or without a scanner.
There are others here more familiar with these who might give you tips.
IMO you shouldn't have to research this if you have it in a shop.
