i like my mastercraft digital multimeter, but the beep for the continuity check is getting hard to hear if there is any ambient noise at all ... it couldn't possibly have anything to do with me being 70 years old.
any recommendations for a meter with a louder beep ... i am in canada so preferably canadian tire/kms tools/princess auto, or something online.
since i am also pushing 70 and deaf from too many years running D8 bulldozers without mufflers, i dont even bother with the continuity noise on any of my digital meters.
and i usually use my Simpson 260 meter for accurate stuff anyway, so it does not even have a continuity tone.
It might be easier or more convenient to use one of the illuminated handle-d test lights and keep in mind you're using that now instead of an audible tone for continuity.
Nothing beats a light bulb coming on to let you know.... yep that wire is hot.
Try that with todays computer controlled systems and you just fried a very expensive computer and just having enough voltage to illuminate a lamp isn't going to tell you anything when the diag procedure calls for testing for voltage drops, resistance, etc....
Interesting.......
So you say it is supposed to beep when doing voltage testing?
I thought it was only supposed to beep in the continuity testing mode.........
At 73 I guess I need to turn my hearing aids up!!!!! :-)
There are a number of good brands out there to choose from but you'll rarely go wrong with Fluke. Just pick the model with the specs that fit your needs.
