Hey wanted to ask since I'm buying a 84 Mazda b2000 and i wanted to swap it with something in the Mazda family, and was wondering if it would be a good idea to swap in the MZR 2.3 from the speed3, Or Should i look into other brands also like maybe a ford V8 if it deems not worth it
If the parts are available for that engine, sure, you can turn that engine longitudinally and use it for rear wheel drive. That’s a big if, though. If it is a direct relative of the 2.3L that went in the 20001.5-2012 Rangers, then it could work.
Then, you have the engine controls. Your truck won’t have anywhere near the inputs required to run a newer engine properly. I mean, it can be done, but you will lots and lots of studying of wiring schematic and splicing to do.
How about something like the 2.6 Mazda engine from1986 or 1987 B Series. Oh wait, I see you are in the Republic of California and might have to research emission regulations for an engine swap.

yea im looking for options that pass CA ****ty smog checks but i have a few ideas on how to pass that since anycar before 90s and is obd1 has a lot more leeway but from what ive read so far a couple v8 options may be ok or maybe the 2.7 turbo that was mentioned earlier just would need alot of custom wiring which i think i can do luckily
