Thanks for the help. I need to decide what to do with mine. I have this engine but I also have a 302 that's been sitting in the corner for a while. It's not in as good of shape as the 215 but I'm still debating on it.

Jon, incase you missed the nuance, based on your bore measurement you initially provided, regardless if your engine was a 215 or 223 to start with, you already exceed the books max bore size for the 223 and thus already exceed what Jim has done and so if you are currently trying to source parts to rebuild it again, that could be futile.

Dead center is correct for the distributor gear for an I6 215 engine used in 52-53:




I'm happy with my decision to stay stock. The fact that the engine you have probably can't be rebored again shouldn't be a factor for quite some time--and then you still have the 302 as a spare in the unlikely event your stock engine gets worn out.

Thus is also why I'm thinking about the 302

I would be happy to stay stock if I didn't already have it bored to max and almost it need rebored. I have a 223 block but its in pretty rough shape.
