Aloha all, I’m looking to do a hydroboost swap on my 84 6.9. I’ve seen online that people need the rod and spring from an old stock hydroboost set up because the new booster won’t come with it. I live in Hawaii and we don’t have salvage yards so I wanted to see if anyone had a source on here, even if it’s an online salvage yard that can ship to me. Want to make sure I can get that part before I start ordering everything else.
mahalo, J
It's been a long time since I installed mine, but I don't recall having any missing parts when I bought the new hydroboost unit.
Was this for a retrofit or just replacing your existing hydroboost setup? I have heard that the hydroboost unit from the store does not come with the necessary rod and spring.
Ah, so they no longer make them new. I see. So you're finding the reman ones only come the main parts? Ok, well look here at rock auto:
PRIOR 3700392 Does Not Include Master Cylinder; Reman; w/Pedal Rod
WT 14; Pedal Rod Code 71469
$341.66
I found that under:
Part Catalog>FORD>1993>F SUPER DUTY>7.3L V8 DIESEL>Brake & Wheel Hub
That's funny, they show a couple options w/ vacuum boosters. All the F450's came with hydroboost.
There's a lower cost option there for those of us who just need a replacement without the rod;
CARDONE 527079 Remanufactured; Does Not Include Master Cylinder
With hydro-boost
$184.99
$150 bucks price difference. Them rods are turning into gold.......... Bolt the thing in there, I can assure you, you'll come to understand it's worth every penny anyway. I found it was an absolute must for a dually w/ stake bed. My truck went from very unsafe to very, very safe overnight. I'm surprised all the dually F350's (at least) didn't get the hydro too, really.
I was reading where they are doing swaps using more modern parts and they don't require sourcing the F450 brake pedal either. So seems they found a better/more up to date way. I know nothing about it, other than they're using them from more modern "super duty" (as in 1999+ Ford pickups) I think it is. So do research that first.
Thank you for all the help, finally looping back to this as I have gotten all the parts on island. I want to make sure I have most everything before taking things apart so I am looking to pick up the proper adaptors. Brake lines are typically 3/16, and are the (circled in red) nuts 3/8"? Going to look for brass adapters to fit to the new master cylinder.
