Wheel swap questions...

I have an '03 F250 that came stock with the steel, chrome clad wheels. I'm wanting to swap these out and get a set of remanufactured aluminum rims, like these, both the same, just different sellers:

https://www.hubcaphaven.com/p/1328/a...myZzhxf37q4DN2

https://wheelsamerica.com/product/fo...oem-wheel-rim/

When switching from the steel wheels to the aluminum wheels, can I use the same lug nuts? I believe so, but want to make sure. Going to reuse my chrome hubcaps.

I know these wheels came in a polished version as well, but there is a window (holes) size difference between the F81Z1007LA and the F81Z1007LB:

Anyone know why they made two exact wheels with different sized window holes? Makes no sense, just curious, that's all. All I see available is the LA version, so that's what I'm going to get anyways.

Anyone have experience with either of those companies linked above? Price is about the same from both and both have free shipping.

My only contribution to this is : aluminum and steel center caps are actually different. My steel winter rims are thinner = a deeper center cap over the aluminum.

and the lug nuts are the same on all super dutys with stock rims , I'm not sure about aftermarket rims

I thought the center caps were the same for either rim, the ones I have are plastic with chrome plating. They could be pot metal, but they feel like plastic. Let's see if others chime in on center caps.

Thanks for the lug nut answer, the rims I'm looking at are OEM rims.

All Ford factory rims are hubcentric. The lugnuts are strictly there to keep the wheel on the truck, non weight bearing or to keep the wheel centered (lugcentric). So as long as you keep to OEM rims, you can re-use the lugnuts. If you do for some reason end up buy new lugnuts, check which thread type you have. There was a generation design change around 2002. Should have fine threads, but sometimes rigs have the coarse thread lugs. Usually happens when someone changes the front unit bearing out not knowing there is a difference.

Centercap can be re-used pretty much across the spectrum for 16" thru 18" rims. I don't know if the 20's are compatible as well.

fitment wise, make sure to only get 1999-2004 Superduty and/or Excursion rims. The 05+ rims have a much different offset and will require 2" spacers to make them fit properly. Tons of guys hate on the OEM Alcoas and sell them for cheap with good tires. these are OEM Alcoas...personally I'd get those over the rims you linked

As mentioned above, going from the steel wheels to the aluminum ones you posted in your first link, as long as they're actual OEM wheels, will be a non-issue. I did it on my '03 years ago, because I got tired of salt making the steel wheels rust out and start to leak. Went to a set of aluminum wheels and never had another issue. Center caps all fit and were carried over, the steel wheels were taken to the local scrapyard and I got a few dollars out of them (because NO ONE wanted to buy them after leaving them on FB for about 3 months).

Thanks for all the responses and information. I am planning on going forward with these: https://www.hubcaphaven.com/p/1328/a...myZzhxf37q4DN2

It appears the option for 2003 was polished and the as machined version was available for 1999 and 2000 models judging from this information: https://www.wheelcollision.com/store...F550PICKUP.htm

I'm still curious about why the same rim option had two different sized window holes. Not that it matters, just curious why the F81Z1007LA had 44.5 mm window holes had and the F81Z1007LB had 47.6 mm window holes.

Question about the lug nuts, I'm planning on replacing all of them and was curious if anyone knows of a source that has a better price than these for OEM: https://www.fordpartsgiant.com/parts...z-1012-aa.html
