Rad ratchet strap alternative

These seem really useful but expensive for what they are. Has anyone come across an alternative that’s reasonable? They are $150+

The alternative I use is a normal $5 ratchet strap that is removed and stored in the truck out of the weather. Bonus of mine, is that I can hook mine to the lower bed corners, the stake pockets, under the lip of the bedrail, or my headache rack.

theres obviously some pros and cons but if you can’t see how for some people these would be helpful and/or more convenient then I can’t help you

obviously they don’t work for everyone but people who do very frequent trips strapping and unstrapping things in the bed I see the intrigue

also lots of folks have retractable bed covers and these would be protected from the elements when not in use.

I made my own with some stock I had laying around. Cost was just the ratchet straps. If you want the CAD files DM me.

I’d love them but I can’t do anything with them. That’s part of my education that is really lacking. I’m right by a community college that teaches all sorts of fabrication. Once my kids can watch themselves I’ll probably take classes. That’ll be 10 years from now.

Of course I can see that the Rad setup could be helpful for some. I also see a limiting factor of the Rad setup, in that you can really only use it in a straight line, across from the ratchet. The range of use for this product is pretty limited IMO.
OP asked for a reasonable alternative because of the $150 price tag on the others....so I gave an alternative.

op was and is happy with the alternative although I’m looking for something in between. I’ll have ratchet straps in my truck but most of what I’ll put in the bed can probably be served by the direct or diagonal attachment position.

if I could fabricate I’d make the attachment plates myself and buy the straps for $25 give or take.

I have not used these, but there are a handful of items like this under varying no-name brands on Amazon.

I have the Rhino branded ones
Amazon Amazon
. Same things minus the mounting plate. Got the 1" straps & realized I didn't trust them for strapping down the RZR but liked the concept so got the 2" straps as well. Basically a standard ratchet strap + a seatbelt retractor. The ratchet only goes in a 45, maybe 60 degree arc instead of the usual 190 degrees or whatever. So they are a bit slower, along with being a bit heavier than normal ratchet straps. A little limited on length compared to some straps. I'm gonna guess the mechanism is a bit more fragile than normal straps, but haven't had any issues yet. No dealing with the tails you have on normal ratchet straps is their only big advantage. Couple minor disadvantages, but I think I still like them over normal ratchet straps.
