sorry to step in here again. but i was wondering why TSL's up front and boggers out back? boggers for digging and tsl better at steering control? just wondering because o am looking for some good off-road only tires when i lift my truck.
I've found that when you get lateral on a slope the boggers will want to slide out and makes steering a pain. Plus, Tsl's still work really good in the mud but isn't near as hard on your front end as a bogger. I've been seeing more and more guys running this set up, and I've been thinking about trying it myself. Figured a 44 Swamper up front and a 44 Bogger in the rear with the little lugs removed would be bangin.
i havent ran my cut tires in a bog yet....i just cut em about a month ago.....they make it more like driving a tractor
i may try that pro.....my tsls steer much better in slick stuff.....but they just dont pull like boggers.....especially a cutt bogger
i guess that would be ok in the front though, maybe ill try it one day
tell us about your setup tellico... has it changed any?
Hasn't changed much. I am a little short on cash lately.
The good news.....The machine work is done on the D0OE-R Cobra jet heads. I will be paying that bill off tomorrow and bringing them home.
I have most of the hard parts for my build, I need to buy the pistons, The roller valve train, and a carb yet. That will do it for expensive parts.
The goal for this engine is 600 HP @ 6000rpm. Domed pistons for a 12.5:1 compression ratio. Ford Motorsports single plane (vic jr style) intake. I am usure of the cam specs off the top of my head.... I will post them tomorrow.
My engine guy reminds me of Mr Rogers, he is real quiet, small statured, and his shop is very clean.
He told me, in his barely audible voice, that this engine will "make serious thunder". To which I grunted like tim allen...ooooohhhh oooohh Thunderrrr !!! Thunder is good!!
I am going to keep my 1/2 ton axles until they give up on me then I will get some D60's. I have a few rears here and found a high pinion D60 front for $700 (which I should probably just scoop up now)
I will be moving the radiator to the rear, as well as the battery. I am also looking for a fuel cell.
I have toyed with the idea of removing a couple leaves from the rear pack, Then putting ladder bars on it . I think this will allow the rear to plant hard on launch.
I was also thinking some one way shocks would be cool, Valved so the rear can squat quickly but rebound slowly.
I don't think Ho competes, which is why I suggested the cut rear boggers in the rear to compensate for the front tsl's. Every comp I've been at, cut tires automatically put you in the "Open" class...you know, with the guys running the 2000# buggies with the 900 horse blown alchohol motors. Hell with that. I don't run cut Boggers for that reason. My motors bad but its not THAT bad. But I'm thinking I could get a pair just for the rear for muddin that I could carve up. Your rig is sounding sweeter and sweeter Telli. Thats some pretty stiff comp your running...I was tempted to go that route but I wanted to be able to run it off pump premium for screwing around and aviation fuel when racing so I stuck with the 10:5.1 Who's doing your head work?
I'm thinking with those type of shocks you might run into disaster if your mud dragging and hit a series of whoops quickly in succesion...but I say if you got the spare coin try it and let the rest of know how it works.

My heads are being done by Huizinga race engines. He has a machine shop he runs in the daytime and builds race engines at home in the evenings.
The last time I was there I was checking out the multi port fuel injection manifold, and the exhaust manifolds he built from scratch for his 390 F.E. engine. This guy is incredible.
Pro, what octane do you run in your truck at 10.5:1? I'm looking at building a stroker next year, thinking about 10:1 compression but don't want to have to get too fancy with my fuel. If I'm lucky I might even do better than your 4MPG
im not pro..
but 10.5 is about the limit with 93 octane, you gotta watch the timing
i run 10:1 and 93 with plenty of timing....no pinging
awhile back i had a stock 429 with 10.5:1 and i couldn't run more than 4 degrees initial timing without pingin like hell....but it was wore out and prolly had alot of carbon buildup so i dunno????
So maybe 9.5:1 for me to be on the safe side. I'm looking at going with a 4.5" stroke, probably bored .40 over. Now if money would only fall from the sky!

Yup. Fortunatly, the characteristics of the 385 class heads make them much less detonation prone than most of the other heads, otherwise you coudn't even run that much with todays crap gas. But I've found that they can handle the 10.5 if you go with a good quality premium with fair timing. But I run aviation fuel when I race, and am able to bump up the timing a bit then. I think you'd be happy anywhere between the 9.5-10:1 range. Have fun with your build.
