cracked timing cover

i have a 97 2wd 4.2l with 56k miles. i started my truck the other day and heard a loud clanking noise. my ford dealership told me it was a cracked timing chain cover,leaked oil and threw a rod.i had no warning at all. all fluids were fine.what could cause this to happen?

Leaks coolant into cylinder(s) overnite and then BANG! You need a new motor....

The 97 and early 98's had problems with bad timing cover gaskets and lower intake gaskets. Guess I was one of the fortunate ones.
