I just want to let you know that I passed the emission control and TÜV.
So I will have Fun for the next 2 years.
For those who don't know what I talking about:
Here in Germany you have to drive to the TÜV (technical control for oil leckage, brakes, rust, electrical system, tires etc.) and to the emission control any 2 years Most guys there are not very freindly
The emission control is horrible, the guys measure your emission under full thottle and that three times
What about you? Do you have such tests and how is you emission control?
IMHO, that is very stringent. Most emissions over here are measured at idle and 2500rpms, because that is where most people are running. Most people are't driving at full throttle all the time. I guess, unless you are driving a Top fuel dragster or something..
I live in Indiana and we have not had any kind of car or truck inspection or testing since 1978 or so.
We used to have a yearly inspection of exhaust (Just that it wasn't falling off), All lights working, and brake petal didn't go to the floor to purchase a safety verification window sticker that lasted a year.
It was a joke - Since the Law was repealed - anything goes - except open pipes - We do have a noise ordanance.
here in maryland we have to have an inspection to test every thing and a emmision test that you have to push the throttle half way down(w/out tach)2200rpms (w/ tach)for a reading of 220ppm
well im from ohio and as far as i know we dont have much worth of emmissions control lots of people run srright pipes and noone says anything. then you also have those dumb people who have to check the gas and fill the oil. lots of people run bald tires and its crazy but i justt for those of us who are a little more smart we use it to our advantage
What happens when they are testing your rig at full throttle with no load on it and the motor throws a rod? Will they pay for it? I wouldn't let anyone full throttle my truck motor to "test" it. They would have to buy it first!
Minnesota had emission inspections for a few years, but then it was found that the air quality testing had been fraudulent, so the inspections were repealed....

Hi,
it's a good point. If your engine throw a rod or any other damage at full throttle the owner of the truck/car has to buy a new one
And this is the point where I get very angry, 'cause this test make no sense to me. At 2000 rpm or so.....no Problem but the guys want to know at which rpm the engine shuts up. (3600rpm ?) And this three times for a special period of time.
It's only so hard for Diesels.
If you pass the test you got a special decal for your front licence plate (look in my Galerie, there is a little yellow decal between "PI" and "TW" above the "-")
If you don't pass the test....good luck

That could be the same here but the goverment earn lots of money with this test. One test costs appox. $30 plus spare parts if you need and this for appox. 50 million cars/trucks...
Jens, here in California we have well enforced emission inspection and testing. It's required every 2 years to renew your vehicle registration. Any time a vehicle is sold or the title changes, it has to be tested and inspected. It's tested on a dyno at idle and 2500 rpm. There is a clause that if the cost of repair will go over $400, you will get a waiver. But you must spend up to the $400 limit trying to get it in compliance.
Diesels are exempt from testing. Between the newer cleaner vehicles put out on the road every year and the compliance program for the old ones, California's air is getting so clean that now lawnmower's and other off road engines are considered the biggest source of air pollution.
Good thing I never had to test my '84 in germany. It would shutoff at about 6500rpm when the pushrods snapped off the rockers and in turn blew holes through the valve cover.

Don't be afraid, gas engines are only be tested at idle....
