About to close the deal on a very solid 1960 F-100 out of California. The only rust on the truck is on the drivers side quarter panel and a small 2" spot on the passenger side door. The step well on the driver side has a bit in the corner as well. Rest of the truck is super dry and very original. The truck is a rare Adriatic Green and I think finding another fender and door would be extremely difficult unless I decide to paint which is highly unlikely. I don't think the rust is a deal breaker considering its cosmetic but I just wanted to know your thoughts. Appreciate it.
Hard to know what you are asking. Yes. That is rust but sure wouldn't keep you from driving and enjoying. With the faded paint, if you were to patch the few holes and spot paint, it would still look like a cool 65-year-old truck. Up here we would call that pre-rust!
Depending on the price, how it runs and drives minor rust like this isn't a deal breaker. If the rest of the truck is decent I wouldn't mind this in my garage.
If that's the worst spot on the truck, I'd consider that highly superficial and would not stop me from buying it if I wanted it. That's a simple and common repair, far from structural. Now, if we were talking about roof rails, pinch welds boiling, underbody and floors, cab mounts, etc., that's another matter. Don't let this easy repair stop you. Buy it and enjoy it.
