Thank you in advance for the forum and advice. I have a 1999 Ford f250 7.3 diesel that I am having a problem with. I went to start it the other day, it was in Park, but wouldn't do anything. I rattled the gear shift lever and it still did nothing. I put it in neutral and it finally started by moving the gear shift lever. I assume there is some kind of switch that insures it is either in park or neutral before starting? If that is the case, where is it located? If not any help would be very appreciated. Thank You for you advice.
welcome to this site, please read the site guidelines above,
as to your starting issue yes there is a neutral safety switch you can reask your question in this section where it will be more seen and get faster help https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum30/
park neutral safety switch. not all the same. Some can be adjusted. Also can be caused by the wires of the tilt column and excessive play in the bushings the linkages run through in the column. Lifting up and toward you on the shift lever and starting or starting in neutral is a common fault. Replacing this part by itself does not always cure the issue. 30ish USD.
