Mitch,
I have the f-250 in my sig w/ 5.4. It does what i need to do especially right now while i'm in germany and I'm very happy with it. However if and when I buy a new one and if they don't goober up the design to much in the next few years. I'll will get a PSD and go f-350. Just my$.02 I get an avg of 13 mpg all autobahn driving 85 plus mph.

It depends on what you plan to use your truck for, if you do a lot of heavy towing, I wouldn't buy less than a V10. If you don't really do a lot of towing go with the 5.4. Also if you buy the 5.4 I would suggest going with the 4.10 gearing it would put your torque to the ground about on par with a V10 with 3.73 gearing. If you are buying new, i'd also suggest waiting to see if the 2005 SDs have the 300hp 5.4, you'll only be giving up 10hp to a V10 if you do. This is just my 2cents, as I said it all depends on what you need the truck for.
I love mine. Had a 99 V10 (275hp)/5 speed 4.30 gears with 305's in a similar truck before this one. The 5.4 gets about 1- 2 mpg better around town and about 3-4 better on the interstate. It only seems slower than the V10 on the interstate. But not bad. I raced a 98 Z71 with the 350 and we were fairly even from a 40-98 mph race. I have laid a single track blackmark 90 feet long. Do NOT get an open rearend unless the deal is too good to pass up (like mine). If I did serious towing, the 5.4 would be out of the question. For normal driving, it does excellent.
