I am putting a 95 FI 460 into my 69 F100. I have already converted it to carburetor. I was OK with thinking I was going to have to use an electric fuel pump. But I started thinking about just putting a mechanical pump onto the 460. I cannot find any information on whether the eccentric is on the camshaft on this engine and hooking up a mechanical pump is just a timing cover and go. Or is it more involved?
The fuel pump eccentric is bolted on over the gear, it is not part of the cam itself. It will not be on that engine but the part appears to be available online. I am not sure if there is a hole in the front cover though.

I knew it was bolted on. But I had heard (internet of course) that engines still got the eccentric. That did not make sense so I thought I would ask. There is no hole in the current cover. I would have to get a early timing chain cover and swap it out. And that brings up a couple of other questions. I was hoping someone had already gone through the headache and would be willing to share the information.
It will be well worth it to get a genuine Carter electric fuel pump along with the oil pressure safety switch. Ford E series vans with 460s had them. The problem with the mechanical fuel pumps lately has been the pressures are too high and cause carburetor flooding over and a fire starts.
The Carter pumps are quiet when mounted correctly. You will need a filter before the pump.
The pump with the safety switch will only operate while there is oil pressure. The safety switch has a feature that runs the pump when the starter is engaged then reverts back to oil pressure control.
I have mounted the safety switches and oil pressure senders remotely to a convient location with high pressure steel braided steel hose which also provides a good ground.
I was trying to decide on an electric pump. The Carter pump was the one I was thinking about the most. But thank you for the heads up on the safety switch. I will make sure I get that option when I make my pick.
