Is there a thread here that goes into any real detail about possible remedies for the execrable parking brake in these trucks (at least in my XL 6.8l 6-speed)?
Everyone else who has a 1999- 2011 SD manual transmission has a parking brake that works well? Mine won't hold the truck (2004 F250 XL CC LB V-10 6-speed) reliably when in neutral in my driveway, which is just barely on a grade (my guesstimate is ~0.8%). It has been like that since the truck was brand new.

The parking brakes are a drum-in-hat (hat being the rear brake rotors) setup. Adjusting the adjuster star wheel through the little access port to compensate for wear often helps some. Sometimes the pads get glazed and don't hold well, you may want to pull the rotors off and look at the shoes. The parking brake should hold the truck on a slight grade in neutral. Trucks with manual transmissions usually are the ones that can tell that the parking brake is not adjusted well as there is no parking pawl like there is an in automatic. My '99 F-450 has a ZF6 too and I did have to adjust the parking brakes to get them to hold, it would roll if there was any grade when I first got it. Adjusted, they are not great but not horrible.

Mine is adjusted pretty tight and I park mine on some pretty nasty places idling to run the winch. 2010 super duty.
You can also install a line lock for front and or rear brakes too if needed. I know micro is a good brand but I believe any line lock should work as long as fittings connect obviously

Those work well, but they don't satisfy the requirements for a parking brake for a state safety inspection, if he lives somewhere that does that.
