Auto Zone tech wanted the " key on" and determined the battery was bad.
He forgot to turn the key off when he replaced the battery. With the key on, a huge spark (that looked like it jumped 2 inches) jumped to the positive pole.
Afterward, the headlights would not turn off (without disconnecting the battery), no wipers or washers, no turn signals, no high beam or fog lights, and no brake lights worked.
Ford Dealership determined that the power surge had damaged the BCM (Body Control Module)
$2400 to diagnose, replace, and program the BCM.
The tech also did not follow simple battery Disconnect and Connect best practices to remove cables! NEGATIVE FIRST, POSITIVE SECOND, and to Reconnect cables POSITIVE FIRST, NEGATIVE SECOND.
Tech connected Positive Second, causing the huge power surge that took out the BCM
Auto Zone says it is not possible; the Battery replacement could damage the BCM! Will not cover damages
Has anyone else experienced BCM damage from incorrect battery replacement?
