check engine light

Hi iam new to power strokes. Its my bosses truck and we are having some difficult times with it. Its a F450 4x4 five speed with dump box and snowplow. 1995 model year. The trouble we have is that whne the truck first starts it runs fine for maybe 2 seconds then the check engine light comes on and it runs really rough with no power. If you floor it it wont throttle up past about 1200 rpm. The alentor wont charge the batteries for the first five minutes or so and when it finally does start charging it runs a little better but not much. Now if ya try and drive the truck it has no power cant go any faster then 2nd gear 3rd if yar going down hill. Then all of a suuden for no real reason the check engine light goes off and it runs fairly well. But below 2 grand its a little doogy and over 2 grand its perfectly normal. we have been chasing this problem for awhuile now the check enegin light is new as of two weeks ago. the check engine ligh will then come back on when ever it feels so motivated and run like heck again. It will swicth on and off when ever it feels like it no real ryhme or reason to it. Its like a switch tho light on instant bad running light off instant good running. we took it to ford they scanned the computer and said that it tripped a temp sensor in the exhaust and that the check engine light is normal. Not really liking there diagnosis we talked to the next closest dealership wich is 65 miles away they said there is no temp sensor in the exauhst only a back pressure sesnor and would only give more help if we brought them the truck. wich we cant really afoord to tow it there and driving it there at ten miles an hour dont seam like to much fun. we really need to get it fixed but with milk being ten bucks a 100 weight money is a bit tight to go towing it to a bunch of dealerships. any and all sugestions would be ghreatly appreciated. Ps had a new crank shaft postion sensor installed last year along with new injection pump transfer pump and the altentor was checked and works normal and a new altnetor put on for kicks does the same thing. Thanks in advance
