When to Buy

I am looking at buying a new SD CC. Right now there are $2,000 in incentives. I am in no hurry, and can wait 3 or so months. Does anyone know if there are better incentives on the way?

I was talking to a dealer last weekend. There should be better incentives in the spring. But they could also have a price increase on the trucks. If today they sell a truck for 35,000 with 2,000 incentives, the net is 33,000. In the spring if they increase the MSRP to 35,500 with the incentive increased to 2,500, the net cost is still 33,000. I'm pricing trucks now and saving the information. When I buy in the spring, I will use the saved information, to calculate if the incentives are that good.

Big blue, try the dealers at the end of January. Most people are paying off Christmas debt and are not buying new rigs at that time. Just the last few days of Jan., when the salesmen are trying to make their quotas and get their bonus. If not Jan., ALWAYS! the last couple days of the month. Check it out.

the best time to buy is when you don't need one...when you can wait em out. Dealerships are quota driven...when they need more in their count, then they are more willing to sell....for some dealerships, they don't bargin at first and will do anything toward the end of the month. Some are more willing to sell easy in the first part of the month when everything is slow (because everyone is waiting til the end to get a good deal). It all depends on traffic thru the dealership as to how low they will go. As far as incentives are concerned...that is ANYBODYS guess...who knows...if past peformance is any indicator...I wouldn't look for anything much better than they currently are.

For what it's worth... I bought mine in December, the week before X-mas. Talk about willing to deal... NOBODY was shopping the lots and I got to play lot guy vs. fleet guy vs. lot manager. They forgot all about the MVA (Market Value Adjustment, read $$ above sticker) and I got it for about 15% off base sticker. Decent deal in my book, plus no lines and the deal was done in a matter of hours.

Walk the lot, you might be surprised how vacant (dealing) they are this time of year.

Definitely wait until the end of the month...sales quotas ARE important to salesmen

If you have a business, buying this year IS a tax write off if you need one

Outpost22 - you gotta be able to afford the deduction first!

I was looking to pull the trigger on an '04 until I started hearing mixed things about the 6.0, probably better off keeping mine until 150,000 anyway so I don't get the wife tweaked (again)
