I have a 97 2WD F-150 with the 5 speed manual and 4.2V6. Has about 150k miles on it and the downshift from 4-3 grinds a little sometimes and dosnt always want to go into gear. Im gonna guess my syncro's are goin. Is this reasonable at 150k miles? Anyway i have never really rebuilt a 5 speed manual transmission before and i was wondering if it is do-able with out "special" tools for a regular guy whos pretty good with stuff like that.

but yea. probably syncros.
as with any transmission, its a pain in the azzcrack unless you konw what your doing.
I'd check into rebuild kits for the transmission. Might be easy with a kit.
