1997 F150 with the 4.2L. I've noticed that idling in park, the oil pressure "gauge" flickers up and down sometimes. It literally vibrates back and forth. Today, when coming to a stop with the truck in gear at hot idle, the oil pressure gauge dipped far down, prompting the oil light to come on as well. As soon as I put it in park, it popped back up to the midpoint. The engine runs well, but sometimes sputters a bit. I checked the oil level and it is fine. Is this possibly a sender/switch issue, or is something more at play?
Yes, most likely
I would replace the sender and re check the gauge operation
You can put a direct pressure gauge on the engine while the sender is out
That way you can run the engine, get it hot and check the "actual" pressure
Most likely just a indicating or gauge problem
