I have a 2000 expedition 5.4 EB.
i have s after market security sys with remote start. Last night. I started up, and noticed the remote start engaged, shut down, cranked up again. No start, but remote start was engaged. Finally it started, but this time the starter, kept trying to start, i heard like a grinding noise a few times as well. I shut it down, now with the rain we’ve had here, i was getting moisture from the top of my windshield. But looked under the dash driver side, and did not see or feel any water. But the signal receiver for the alarm was mounted at the top of the windshield. Exactly where I see the water is getting in from. So the receiver had a plug. I unplugged it, and the same thing with the remote start engaging, and the starter cranking. Then if started, the starter keeps engaging making the grinding noise. I thought i had the part fixed. It stopped trying to crank while it was running. More rain came down and its trying to crank with the grinding. I don’t let ruin while it’s doing that. Once i hear it i shut down, no damage to starter… thank goodness, but any help would be great, thank you looking forward to any help.

The folks that know about this sort of thing don't often visit the New Member Introductions forum. I have created a copy at the start of a new thread over in the 1997 - 2006 Expedition & Navigator forum for troubleshooting.
