front disk brakes
My Ford dealer said I need new front brake pads AND rotors. I think the rotors are fine (36k miles) so I will replace the pads myself. Does anyone know the size and type of the caliper bolts so I can remove the calipers?

My Tribute uses a "allen" head style bolt. 7 or 8mm. We took ours in to a local shop for an alignment and got the "OMG, sir your brakes are shot" call. He said we had less than 100 miles left. When I got it home I pulled a wheel and low and behold, the pads had 3/16" left on them. (32K) Crooks! My rotors do show signs of wearing thin.

It is a torx bolt i forgot what the size is something like T43. I picked up a set from Auto zone and it came with about 5 or 6 sizes. The set was about $10. if I can remember corectly (2 years ago) At 36K it is time for new brakes i doubt you need "new" rotors but they may need to be turned/cut Do you feel the steering wheel shake when u brake? The only real way to see if you "need" new ones is to measure them and see where they are at. The pads that come on the Escape are made by Ferodo and they are very good brakes. A bit high on the dust but the performance is top of the line. Stay away from auto zone brakes unless your trading the truck in. If you don't want to spend $100 from the dealer at least get the pads from Napa.
