This is my view from my driver's side mirror, for some reason it keeps falling to this position. I hit it with some PB thinking that may fix it, but it just falls faster now, do I need a whole new mirror or can this be fixed? I really don't want to shove a wad of paper under the mirror.
If you remove the mirror and bracket from the door, and soak it face down in about an inch of gasoline, the silicone that holds the glass will release. Then you can see what's going on inside.
My passenger's side was completely rusted away inside.
Since my truck isn't going to mecum any time soon, I cut a bevel on a ~1" conduit coupling, and through bolted the mirror frame. The bevel gives you pivot if needed.
I used 3m moulding tape to reinstall the glass.
I know the LMC replacement assy. the head has 3 screws at the bottom and you can tighten them to make the ball tighter.
I went to tight and when I went to adjust the bolt and part of the mirror head stud broke off leaving the ball in the head and had to get a new assy.
I now use a 90* screw driver to tighten the screws after it is adjusted where I want it.
They still move some when slamming the pass door closed or people walking into them at shows
