How I did it is in the link I provided as well. A 1/4" drive flex socket and flex ratchet was key.

Oops. I remembered you’d posted above but didn’t remember you’d linked to your install. Thanks. I wish I’d have read your install info again before installing mine!

Yes that tool setup would have worked well. I had 14mm 1/4”, but no 15mm.

Also went back and corrected the bolt head size based on the info in your instructions.

I handed over the UnOpened box with the new starter to my mechanic.

he didn't say anything about the install.

I noticed the difference immediately.
my butt says it turns the crank over, at least twice as fast as the old OEM starter.

at 20*F and 5w40 full synthetic oil,
when the glow plugs time out, it is running in about 3-4 seconds after the starter is engaged.

Just a thought on the powermaster clearance issue. How about replacing the provided flanged hex bolts with socket head bolts and washers? A hex key socket should have plenty of clearance around the starter body.

Ok, just replaced the starter with a Power Master, really not that bad getting the top bolt in. 15 mm flex socket, extension and flex head ratchet, Snap on flex head torque wrench finished it up.
Definitely make a couple of studs to guide and hold starter in place.
Probably took an additional 5 minutes

Thanks for all the input

Mike

Sounds like proper tools make all the difference! Looks like I need to get some flex head stuff. Or maybe I just need some better wrenching skills!

Glad you got it in easily.

How does it start the truck? Happy so far?

Works great considering the factory starter was kaput bought it from Summit, shipped FedEx
. two days it was here, and cheaper than a Napa unit.
