Battery Guage problem

While going down the road the battery indicator, you know has 8 on left side and 18 on the right, went completely to the left and stayed there about 5 seconds. About the time I was getting ready to panic, it snapped back where it usully sits. I watched it the rest of the 750 mile trip and it never did it again to my knowledge.

Was this just a computer brain fart or what?

Slipping belt? It wouldn't go all the way to 8 though, it would drop to the lower 1/3 unless the battery was really bad. Bad gauge? Sounds more like it. That gauge has nothing to do with the computer, it measures voltage on the entire electical system, measured at the power wire for the cluster. Next time it does it, see if the lights get dimmer or the heater fan slows down. If there's no change it has to be the gauge. Otherwise it's something to do with the alternator or battery.

No, this was just like you shut off the truck. It hasn't done it again, so I will just keep an eye on it.

Jeep did the same thing

Had to replace the wiring from the starter to the panel.

In other words. You might want to check to see if you have an bad/exposed wiring.

Never hurts.
