Best source for new headlight switch

Got my truck back from the body shop after an early morning run-in with a deer. The headlight was smashed in and shorted for a few minutes before I switched it off so I'm assuming its fried because I now have a short when its pulled halfway out the circuit breaker keeps tripping. Oddly enough fully pulled out it doesn't trip or draw insane amounts of current.

Who has the best replacement switch? Mine looks to be original.

Also the service book shows a tool to get it out with, can those still be found?

The best would be an original one. Part number 7RA-11654. 11A-11652 also is usable.

Dennis Carpenter has an offering: https://www.dennis-carpenter.com/tru...witch-no-wires

The special tool is for this bezel/nut: https://www.dennis-carpenter.com/tru...-to-dash-nut-c

I think most get by without the special tool. Just be careful not to scratch things up.

I would bet the short is in the wiring to the front marker light. The way the headlight switch works, when halfway out the marker lights are on, but they are off when the headlights are on (switch out all the way).

I thought it might be one of the lights too, but it still shorts out even with all the wiring to them disconnected.

Matt, can you post a picture of your truck. Your signature says "1950 Ford F-1 stake bed" but your icon picture looks like a bigger flatbed with dual wheels. Or do you have 2 trucks?

No luck, new headlight switch changed nothing.

I'm really stuck as to what is causing this, halfway pulled out it pegs the ammeter into discharge, which I'm assuming is a short, trips the breaker. With it pulled out all the way all my lights are on as normal and nothing appears to be wrong.

The parking and tail lights come on until it trips.

Go back to basics. Isolate and verify each part of every connection and don't assume anything. Good luck with your mission.

The problem is in the wiring to the front parking lights because they’re only on when the switch is pulled halfway out.

Are you following a wiring diagram from your manual or similar?

There are enhanced ones for sale from some vendors:

With the stock wiring scheme, the park lights are only on with the switch **** pulled half way out on the 48-50 models. Things get messed with over time - check everything.

If your wiring is stock (even if it has been rewired) you're hunting the BY (blue/yellow-tracer) wire for the park lights. Where it comes out of the harness and connects to the driver's side park light, you should have a double bullet connector so your cross over wire can carry juice to the passenger side light.

I'm betting they wired something wrong when it was repaired that causes the dead short on the park light circuit. These are pretty simple to work with. It has to be that.

Some guys put a jumper from the parking light post to the headlight post to make all light when headlights are on .
