mini spools

I was thinking of getting a mini spool for my 82 bronco.
Whats the spline count for the D44 IFS? I do I need to look for that will fit my front end?
I figure that I can just get out and unlock the drivers side hub when I pull onto some pavement or something like that.

Not a good idea to spool the front even off-road.
D44 is 30 spline I believe.

It seems everyone that I know that has a Lincolin Locker, Fozzy Locker, Spool, or Mini Spool, like them. Guys who don't use them are usually misinformed. A spool in the front is awsome because it greatly improves your 4x4's ability and if you have manual hubs you can engage just 1 hub which alone is better than an open diff. With 1 hub engaged you don't have to worry about most of the nasty habbits of a locker. If you encounter a tough obstical just lock both hubs. For street use keep it in 2wd and you will have no problem. Most guys start having problems (broken axles ect.) if they choose a very large tire size or don't know how to drive or both. Keep a close to stock tire size, use your brain when driving, don't use 4x4 on the street, and use your hubs and you will love your spool. I prefer a Fozzy Locker to a spool as it gives some play which makes locking and unlocking the hubs easy. You may find your spool makes your hubs hard to enguage and disenguage but it won't be that bad.

Spool in the front is a bit extreme for a daily driver... I personally don't care for most of the lockers on the market for the front.. I have seen some crazy and scary things happen to a truck 4 wheeling because the locker doesn't know if it wants to lock the axle or not...

For the front I personally recommend a selectable locker.. ARB or OX, granted they are more exspenive and I am not sure if either ARB or OX makes a locker for the TTB-Dana 44 front..

I have a mini spool in the REAR of my '86 and I love it.. I only run 33" swampers and the truck is otherwise stock.. it wheels pretty darn good.
