Don't want to sound stupid but...recently acquired 99 F350 PSD 4x4 4dr. I am ready to change the fuel filter, but am having trouble finding the correct wrench / tool. The fuel filter cover does not match what is in the original books with the truck. the cover appears to need a torx style wrench. Does anybody know what size it takes????
The first time I changed mine I used a large oil filter wrench. If you have a filter wrench that will fit over the oil filter, it will fit over the lid to the fuel bowl. I also used the wrench to ensure the lid was tightened enough as well.

You are probably seeing an aftermarket filter. Many aftermarket filters come attatched to a new lid....one piece. O.E.M. will be just the element and you use the factory cap. You can use just a plain oil filter wrench to loosen the cap, or if you are real careful take the handle of a screw driver and tap the blade part with a light hammer to bump it around. It will be stiff at first until you break the gasket seal. When installing the new gasket/filter, go ahead and put a light coat of fuel on the gasket to help it seal and don't tighten it very tight as the gasket will form a seal to prevent leaks.....hope this helps you out.
I do mine by hand. Open the drain valve while you give it the first turn, it helps releive the pressure and makes it easier to turn. The fuel filter you have is the new style with the lid mounted to the filter. Make sure that when you buy replacement filters that they have the lid included, as you do not have the original factory lid.
