New owner of 2019 w/6.7. Some experience with DEF/DPF and regens but not much. Some have dash buttons to manually activate a regen and all seem to self activate when needed. Truck is XL package.
How does this system work? Can I manually activate a regen somehow? There is a dash light that I think is a regen light that illuminates KOEO and goes out when engine is started. Temps here were 9 F this morning and I started my truck early to get the ice off of the windshield. When I went out after 15 minutes, truck was at high idle. Is this a warmup feature for the truck or is this a regen thing? How can I tell when truck is in regen? I do have ForScan but I'm not very proficient with it, I was able to use it on my '99 7.3.
I have searched and read and it looks like the thing should regen around every 500 miles. Is this the case with my 2019?
Any other information to help me understand this system is appreciated.
truth be told....there is no real advantage for disabling automatic PCM managed regens to only have manual activated regens.
on auto regens...reguardless of when regen starts....example...you pull into your driveway and regen started...when you start the truck the next time...the pcm will recompute if a regen is still needed and once the engine hits 180 degrees...it it will start regen.
the most my dpf went due to interrupted regens is 106% which still leaves pletenty of capacity before you are at CELS.
also, there are a lot of rubber and plastic componets in the engine that dont do well with multiple exposures to static regens...such as the o ring for the turbo oil feed.

My truck is a 16 and she high idles during really cold weather on cold starts. The 11 to 16s have the "CLEANING EXHAUST FILTER" that appears for a few seconds when in regen. If your truck is not building soot to go FULL, it will regen by 500 miles.. my last active regen was at 80% (truck dash) and she went active at 498 miles. I got an Idash because it is easy to miss when the truck goes active...
I once did a static OCR, commanded from my iDash in which certain perimeters have to met, just to see how it would go. You do it with the hood open for obvious reasons...
If your truck goes FULL before 500 miles, it will regen prior to reaching 500. Having an iDash is nice because than I know when it's active and if I arrive at my destination, I place the truck in park which turns the regen off and I can see it it on the iDash, then let idle a few minutes to get the excess fuel out of the combustion chambers and to let EGR1/1 come down to 400 degrees if hot but that's just me to keep turbo cool.
I'll look into the iDash thing. Is there a way to activate a regen manually, with or without additional equipment? Is there a place on my truck where I can see the status of my filter?

unless your dash display was modified using forscan the answer is no.
the cheapest way out is to get the forscan compatible odb port blue tooth adapter and use the smart phone version of forscan to setup monitors and launch the static regens.

You can do a manual regen through FORscan as well, but the iDash is nice because its small and has lots of features. I also use it as my Speedometer because mine is +2 off, so i have the speed and RPM'S next to each other on my second iDash, i run two.
I have them in the 8 PID screen set up for each.
The screen on left is my active regen screen during a regen. I have a EDC screen that I use... when truck is close to an active regen, I switch to that screen.
Thanks, I have Forscan lite, will that do it or do I need to upgrade to a paid version? I'm kind of skiddish connecting and tooling around for fear I'll hit the wrong thing and brick my truck.
I'm not sure... though FORscan is a great program, I have not used it before... maybe someone with experience can answer that... but always wanted to mess with it and may at one point in time... there's a FORscan thread here in the 6.7 section.
Use Forscan to enable the check box to disable auto regen. When it reaches 100% you can enable to start regen at any time. The only difference between the XL cluster and the higher trims is that the gauges are analog, so the option screen should be the same as it was on my Platinum. It will be on the center screen in the cluster under the settings menu.

So there are 2 settings that you need to do in Forscan. One is called active regen inhibit I believe. this gives you the ability to stop the truck from doing a regen on its own. Helpfull if you know your truck is about to do a regen, but you will be to your destination in 3 miles. Use it to stop the regen from starting, then just turn it back to auto on your next trip to let it regen as normal.
The other is to put dpf percentage on the screen. this will show as a % and it is under the main monitor screen on an XL. Basically just shows you the % full the DPF is so you know when it is about to start a regen.
Both are very easy to do with Forscan. There are plenty of tutorials on this site if needed
