I bought a new to me 2016 f150 lariat. I can not figure out why the dash lights will not dim at night. I turn down the dimmer next to the head lights and it is great until i stop. Then when I get back in the next night, they are bright again. When i touch the dimmer button they dim to the setting i had before.
In the manual and on line i find that the dimmer is bypassed if the auto dimming is on in the dash, but i can not find that setting, or a reference to where to set it in the manual. I am sure it is because I am over looking it.
Anyone help me out with this?
Are you one of those people who throw stuff up on the dashboard like mail, papers, caps, etc. If so, clear off the dash so the light sensor isn't blocked.
Thanks. there is nothing on the dash. The auto headlights come on, so i think the sensor is working. It is just that the dash lights do not dim, until i touch the dimmer button next to the headlight switch.
Just a thought, sometimes when electronics change random settings with these trucks, it is a sign the battery needs charged or replaced. Are you having any other odd things occur, or does your auto start / stop work as it should?
so i have a window sticker for my truck but is there a way to tell exactly what options are on this truck? i found an old mention of etis.ford. but it does not work.
I am going to check and maybe change the battery, i cant find start stop, or adaptive cruise. but i dont know for sure if they should be there?
the window sticker lists 502A and technology package.
it is a 2016 lariat 4x4 3.5L ecoboost
should this be a an agm battery
I'm pretty sure the 502a has auto start / stop. My 2020 does. Someone could have programmed it off, or it might be off because it is charging. Scroll through your menu, it will say why it is off. Yes, mine has an agm battery. Your 2016 might very well be ready for its second battery. I would start there, stop at a store and have it checked. If you have a charger, charge it.
My infotainment system has gone wonky a couple of times. Refused to pair with my phone for unknown reasons. What I ended up doing was disconnecting the ground terminal on the battery and leaving it for a few hours. When it reconnected, it effectively had done a system reset, and I could again pair the phone.
. I will take it in and check the battery unless I can find a date on it. And will disconnect it for a while and see if it all resets.
I will let you know
so i did not go to town today, but the batter has a 2/23 sticker in it, it is also a H6 battery. when i look it up on line it says H7 is it ok, or is this part of the problem?
thank you
Probably not, my 2020 Lariat has an H6 (when I replace it I likely will change to H7) but I seriously doubt it is your problem. Now an undercharged battery I still think could be.
well, it all tested ok, alternator charging well, and battery at 100.
i will leave it locked all night and see if it resets the batter monitor system.
thanks again
