mileage

First of all , this is my first posting,so hello to everyone.

I have a 2002 f-150 xl standard cab,4.2v6,k&n filter,flowmaster exhaust-single in dual out,exit in front of the rear tire.
I do a lot of highway driving mixed with about 30% rushhour traffic. I average about 20-21 mpg with a high of 22mpg.My truck is a 5-speed with a 3:55 rear.I love my truck, it currently has about 90,000 miles with no problems and the original tires all around. I average about 50,000 mi. a year.I've enjoyed reading your forum and look forward to participating in your conversations.

Welcome to FTE!
Sounds like you have a good truck. Glad you like it. Mine is a 2000 but other wise sounds the same as yours. I have 110,000 miles on mine and going strong.
Just curious, where in Alabama do you live?

Northern Talladega county, a small town called Munford. About 10 miles from the Talladega Superspeedway. I hope to get some electric fans for my truck soon, but for now I just dream, you know lack of funds and all that.

I know where Munford is. You are about an hour from me.
Poke around here and you're sure to find something of interest to you.

I get about 18 mpg driving 75 mph. Can get 20 mpg if I drive 60-65.
About 15-16 around town.

(OBTW - mine is a crew cab, not a standard cab.)

Sup travlnman!

I have an '03 regular cab 4.2 with a 5 speed. I love it to death that's for sure. Of course I only have 10,000 miles on it. Before you go for electric fans (which I'm interested in too) I would get a Diablo Chip. So far from our experience here with them they tend to give you about a 1/2 second gain in the 1/4 mile. Try these sights out:

www.motorhaven.com
www.seffects.com
www.truckperformance.com

The motorhaven sight has the Diablo chip. Basically for the 2 Stage chip you pay 229.50 plus $8 shipping. I should have mine in about a day or 2. I recently ordered one and I'll let you know how it goes. Good luck with the truck!

Wow, you've really got some good gas mileage there!

I'm not sure how much mine gets on the highway but with my 4.10 gears and the smaller tires i'm sure it's not that good. Around town is pretty decent seeing that my motor struggles less to jump from light to light. But highway driving mileage is not very good.

Welcome to FTE! Hope you stick around.

Joe is right about the chip. My Diablo I bought from Motorhaven.com dropped me .4 seconds in the quarter and simply rapes from light to light. For the money, it's the best performance you can buy coupled with the simplest installation.

I can't wait to read Joe's reviews after he installs it, he's going to be using alot of capital letters and exclamation marks, as well as a bunch of smiley faces and so forth. It should be fun to see him freak out about it because I think it's going to perform better than what he actually expects it too....you'll see Joe.

22mpg? Wow. Wonder what I am doing wrong. I can only average 15, maybe 16 at best. And that is with twin electric fans, dual exhaust, and knn air filter!!

My 1998 f-150 STX standard cab, 4.2 v6, 5-speed, always gets some where between 19 and 22 mpg. Depending on the in town/highway miles mix and how big of a hurry I’m in.

I think alot depends on your location and altitude, temp, humidity and so forth also. There are probably alot of factors involved, including the human exhageration factor

i get about 220 per half tank. Usually try and not let it get below that, because I notice a drop in milage after that point....I will never get 440 on a single tank

Im ok with that

Why would you get worse gas mileage when your tank is half empty and lighter. I never put more than 5 gallons in my tank at one time, because of the extra weight of the fuel.
