Looking to bring the dash cam from my 2021 to my 24. My last truck I ran the wires down the pillar, has anybody tried the power adapter thing for the mirror like this kind?
I've never used an adapter from mirror power, though I very likely would have had I known there was such a thing. I've been down the road of feeding power across the headliner and down the A pillar a few times. In fact I just sold a nice 1998 Lincoln Town car about a month ago and left the wire in place and let it go with the car.
A few months ago I learned about FITCAMX that's powered via the mirror so I installed one of those. So far I like it much better because it's hidden. Nothing stuck to the windshield or hanging from the rearview mirror stalk.
Somewhere on this forum is a thread on FITCAM that a few of us posted on.

The camera a have and have had for years has a capacitor in it to supply power. It's not a battery and doesn't go bad quickly. I've had it for over 5 years.

Newbie question. I have a stock XL w/out the powered mirror. Does anyone know if the sub-harness is up there? I doubt it, but I'm exploring the best way to add a dashcam and figure I'd start there. Thanks for any tips.
Thanks for sharing. I did a quick search and found a similar one that has 2 power connectors. An rj45 for a radar detector and a usb for a dash cam. I was thinking of modifying the one you posted to power both, but this is cheaper and cleaner.
At least on my dashcam, the capacitor just maintains the settings and clock while unpowered.
That's correct, if they say they have a capacitor or even a "SUPER capacitor" its just for maintaining settings an sending the last seconds of video to storage in case it loses power in motion. ie: a wreck.
If you want recording while its parked you would need to run a constant power wire.
