Bed leaks

Hi all,

I've had my 2017 F 250 for some time now. This year I put a cap on the bed. With having the cap on the back, I have noticed that the bed has leaks along the seams of the fender wells and a few other small places. I also noticed I can see daylight between the passenger wall and the floor base seam in the front corner. Without the cap on, I never noticed the leaks obviously. The bed has the spray in bedliner that came with the truck. Is this a concern? The leaks are not bad but just damp spots I noticed where water is getting in. Something that I can fix?

It is made that way so water will drain out.
I guess you could use seam sealer all around and stop it if you need it to be completely dry, like if you were going to camp back there.

Mine is the same way I have a cap as well. My spray liner covers most gaps but I have seen a few. Luckily water doesn’t seem to come in so I haven’t tried sealing it. My previous truck had more gaps so I used 3M weather strip adhesive it’s flexible and holds well but be sure to order black not yellow. I’m sure pure silicon would do well also however the 3M seems to hold better.

My 18 250 had large gaps on each side of the tailgate. I just had a bedcover on it but that plus the design of the tailgate top funneled water into the bed. I never noticed any water intrusion at the places OP mentioned but had visible gaps there as well with the Ford spray in liner.

It is not made that way for water to escape. They can only get it so close with aluminum and it has a few gaps. Some are larger than others but that’s the way it is. Each truck has them in various spots and it’s often random so it’s not a purposeful design. It’s a stamped piece of aluminum that is “good enough” for the design of the truck. Old beds are welded, new beds are riveted. If it was made to remove water, why would they not be in an older steel bed were water could actually cause an issue versus an aluminum one were water does not really matter. Besides, if you want water out, driving up anything (road or driveway) that has the slightest increased angle would direct all the water to run right out the back.

I wanted to reduce the dust in mine as I have a bed cover. I crawled up in mine with the cover closed and sprayed flex seal anywhere I saw light showing. Even though my bed has the OEM spray lining, it still didn’t cover the gaps. I then ran a rubber seal around the tailgate area so it keeps the bed rather clean.

Appreciate all the replies. I was thinking flex seal as well but thought I'd check in to see what the consensus would be. The water coming in from the bed areas is nominal that I notice a wet area but not water collection. Not only is it around the fender wells but on one of the rear passenger rubber seals (where lights can be placed). Thanks again for all of the input.
