I Purchased a Tuner for my 2002 SD,and man, what a difference. Was told by my ford dealer, that the auto transmission, was already peeked out, and couldn't handle extra HP. What information do you have on this topic.
I am using the carb-certified program for towing a 35Ft 5th Wheel.
It really does what they said it will do. I am impressed.
Since you are likely to already be overloaded with that 35' trailer, I'd do everything I could to beef up (then baby) the the tranny. You'll also want a good (not factory) trans temp guage, maybe an extra cooler, and deeper pan. I'd switch to synthetic fluid too.
Adding a chip probably changes things from "if" it'll break to "when" will it break.
I second what NoMo said. You have to keep the 4R100 tranny cool. I run a Hayden 679 Aux cooler with an Imperial fan. Even towing my 26 ft. SunnyBrook TT in the summer the temps never get over 180 degrees. I have an Autometer gage with the sensor in the side of the transmission case. When I'm towing my trailer I manually turn the fan on when my forward speed in less than 35 mph. Also go with a good synthetic fluid, I prefer Mobil 1. I have a V-10 so I probably don't have as much torque as you do. My father in law pulls a 28 ft SunnyBrook 5er with a 1999 F-250 PSD and has seen tranny temp close to 220 degrees.
