so me and my bro' are doing a trim job at a town house association. simply, just trim the branches off the trees that are a problem, like,- too close to house, deck or cars, can't ride under them with a lawnmower.
not a big deal right? WRONG you'd know this if you've worked for town home associations before. OR if you've read my previous rants.
so a woman freaks out on us like usual. we hardly even touched the trees. she didnt want us to trim the ash tree you can walk under. her " now i cant hang a birdfeeder from there!"
keep in mind she had 6 birdfeeders mounted to her deck railing.
then my brother was so kind as to ask her if she ALWAYS parks her minivan in this spot her- "thats none of your business"
WHAT?!?!?!?! i was simply asking you if you park here so i can cut off these branches so they dont scratch your van"
her reply- ok, cut those branches... so my brother does... she comes out screaming again... "youre going overboard"
blah blah blah...
moral of the story, some poeple need to find a life, and if you want total control over the maintenance on YOUR property, dont live in a townhouse association!
what makes it worse was she had a "enviromentalist" type sticker on her car...
Theres all kinds out there man. I used to take mail orders over the phone and never realised how dumb people are, and how weird people are until I worked there..and got my drivers license.
oh yeah, last time we took out a tree the association told us to, cause it was DEAD for a few years, hanging over the deck... SAFETY HAZARD- so we cut it down. screams come from the house. apparrently she liked the birds that sit in the tree... whoop-ty-doo.... whats she gonna say if the tree fell on her?
The question is, who owns the trees and who hired you? In a typical association, the homeowners own their property but their dues sometimes pay for all the upkeep. If the trees are hers, to each his own, just leave the branches low ???
we were hired by the person who controls all the maintenance and repairs of the association, and usually in cases like this we just throw our hands in the air and let it be their problem in 2 months
As we both know Built Tough there are all kinds! I have an ash tree in the front of my townhouse and it hangs so low that it hits my head. Now, if I cut this branch back properly to a lateral branch as we are supposed to do it will look totally stupid. So I end up cutting the whole branch off. The tree is elevated more than what I would like but it still looks OK. So I go to do the other side of the tree so it is balanced. But I was only gonna take off about 6 1-2" in diameter branches. Also some 3 inch stubs on the bottom 6 feet of the tree. Well, the neighbour comes out and says my kids climb that tree (which they are not supposed to do) and says don't cut anything on his side. He says its his tree. Actually its the co-op's tree and I have permission. So I left his side.
So, it looks totally stupid on his side and my side is trimmed and elevated nice. Then today he goes to hang up some Christmas lights on the tree. He starts to do his side (which is low) and then my side (which is higher). When he gets to my side he gets frustrated and just let them all hang low. It looks so retarded it's not even funny! Actually, it is!
So, the moral of the story is: If the tree guy knows what he is doing...and he's not a weekend warrior......then let him do his job!
BEAST does it seem like this is all i have to whine about? man... but i suppose theres professions out there that have it worse.
we cut one willow out that we were told to. we were verbally attacked by about 12 residents. now, not that this intimidates me, it just distracts me from my work.
quick description of the willow tree- DANGEROUS. the residents were furious now that their kids had no-where to play.
willow is a wet, heavy, SOFT wood that most times cant hold its own weight. now, let Johnny bounce up and down on a branch that is level with the ground, ( yeah shot straight across the yard 25 feet ) while Suzy plays under it. my guess? Suzy suffocates before 911 is even called. parents like that should be shot, makes ya wonder how they lived this long.
I hear ya. People don't understand trees at all! It just amazes me how much common sense actually goes into tree maintenance. I have seen people with Manitoba maples (basically a weed tree) that have huge rotton holes in them and then they fall on their house, car or garage and wonder why it happened! Some people are sooooooo slow! Anyways....time for bed i think!
it goes a lot farther than trees, I was working on building a bridge over willow creek in Prescott AZ, and there is a committee designated to the creek that made us promice not to harm any of the ROCKS in the creek.
What? ROCKS? who cares about rocks, not even big rocks, but small insignificant rocks, I just dont get people sometimes
