In a word, no. Is it doing any good? No.
Keep in mind that 4wd should be used to get you out of a situation that 2wd can't.
It's not that big of a deal to lock the hubs when you figure you're going to need 4wd. This does require that you pay enough attention to where you're at & where you're going.
