So if any ford pros can help I’ll take all the comments possible. Basically, 1980 inline 6 from an f150 blew a piston, someone is offering a rebuilt 63 inline 6 for cheap. I had recently bought a manifold for it and want to see if it fits and or if this engine swap will work.
thanks
I believe they are the same the later might have more compression.
Also if using the 63 intake the carb flange bolt pattern may also be different but hear a little filing can make them work.
Then again you may want to swap your manifolds on to the 63 motor / head as the EXH manifold may dump out in a different direction.
When I got my truck and replaced the head pipe I found the EXH manifold was not for a pickup truck, think it was for a van?
If you have a manual transmission / clutch linkage see if the 63 motor had the mounting for the motor side pivot for the cross shaft.
I know the EFI motors do not have this mount drilled and tapped so check.

What is different between the 63 - 300 and the later so 70's 80's - 300?
Oh wait could it be the motor mounting? Is the 63 off the front of the motor (timing cover?) and bell housing?
If so it may not have the bosses for side mounts
They other might be bell housing patterns?
I would ask in the motor area I linked and could ask in the 63 truck area as I am sure the guys there would know for sure.

300 did not exist in 1963. The 240 and the 300 came out in 1965.
The bellhousing pattern is different. Ford came out with the 240-300 in 65. The earlier engines had a timing chain also,
not it matters. If my memory is correct.
If you can find a bellhousing most probably the transmission will not bolt up.
Well if the 240 / 300 did not come out till 65 then the 63, if it is a 63, would be what a 223?
I think if the price is right I would at least give it a look over and if it is in fact a 240 / 300 I would thing just need to check motor mounts and bell housing pattern.
