Pellet Heat

So allot of people have pellet stoves and pellet smokers--- anyone ever thought of making pellets so you don't have to purchase any? I was thinking about pressing wet sawdust in a hydraulic jack through a pipe. Thoughts?

I know some people also use corn in their pellet heater.

I was just kicking around ideas to make free full - Fuel that you do not have to purchase.

The guy at a local school said I could have all the sawdust I want from the 55 gallon drums at the woodshop class. So that is where I came up with the idea.

Well did som research-- I guess you can buy a pellet maker 200-5,000 depending on what you want. you can make dog food, and pellets to feed any animal (alfalfa, and any grain) you can make big pellets as fire starters- and you can make tiny pellets like or you BBQ or home heater. Home heater pellets can be made from Horse, goat, or cow poop, wheat straw- leaves and lawn clippings, sticks, saw dust , logs, corn stalks and weeds. You can add a little bit of oil to help pellets burn. You can even make pellets from your compost pile. So yeah I guess you can make pellets there are allot of videos on how to make pellets. One guy was using a meat grinder with his drill to make pellets.

So a little internet time and I know way more the I need to to make pellets.

I’ll bet you could add a bit of kitchen grease left over from cooking as a binder agent.

the amount of labor involved probably won’t offset the cost of buying pellets.

So my brother-in-law's last house had a pellet stove in the basement. He was able to go to the local grain elevator to buy large bags of it cheap. He used it a lot until the auger broke. I helped him replace it, but it was a pain.
You could also mix a little charcoal, or coal in with it to get it to burn hotter.
To me it just seems like a lot more work than return.
