Who Died?

That's a question that I often have lately. I read as much news as I can stand every morning. Then I'll go somewhere and I'll see some flags at 'half staff' (the new term I guess -- and some that aren't. I sometimes have trouble finding out who is being honored.

Part of the issue is that the interwebs will likely as not post multiple names -- from various dates.( I usually specify today).

Besides that, there are multiple sources that call for the half staff flags.

Our governor, and at least one of the ones from a neighboring state, will call for US and state flags to be lowered at state office -- and encourage businesses to join. At least on one occasion our flags were lowered for one person and the neighboring state had theirs lowered for somebody else.

I guess that's fine, although I think that US flags were previously only lowered per guidance from the feds -- usually the president. Also, the news usually put up a report on what was going on. Now, it seems to be a little hard to tell.

Not the end of the world, I do think that if flags are being lowered, the info ought to be in the news. Hard to honor someone if you don't know who it is.

Just my .02

only times i pay attention to flags being flown half mast as we always called it is at in town fire stations or at police headquarters.
and unfortunately the past few years the flag id down almost as much as it is up with all our old timers passing away.
we lost 8 police officers (all due to natural illness/old age) and 5 life members of the fire department where i now live, and 6 life members from the department were my father and i were members in the past year.

I can understand the State flag below the US Flag being lowered half mast for Local deaths.

Mom and dad could be at the table every day reading Obits.
Summers and Saturdays / Sundays. I would go out to the rural mailbox for the paper for the sports and funny pages.
Radio would be on for the Hog and Cattle prices. Mom talks about baby chicks too.

Life seemed cooler back then. Then evening news. Maybe the tonight show ruined it all.
