In this months CarandDriver I read a comment submitted by a reader stating that Ford scrapped the new diesel project for the F150 and had to pay 100 million in restitution to Navistar.
Anyone have any other info on this, I browsed and came up with nothing to back this up.
I just searched several sites, including the international website, I didn't see anything, nothing on any business news sights either. Probably just a nasty rumor
Ford scrapped the 4.5L "baby" Powerstroke V-6 project some time ago... rumors of bad emissions or some such nixed it... Now the word is that they are looking for a new partner for a F-150 diesel...
Navistar had to take a $170MM hit for losing the V-6 project, although it appears Ford paid some restitution back to them... seems like the woes with the 6.0L V-8 Powerstroke launched this year may have long term ramifications...
That's funny, I was one of those woes! I had a F-250 6.0 for 7 weeks, traded it in on a Supercrew, so far so good!! All I can say is 6.0 liter ,NO GOOD!
Personally, I don't need 300 HP with the 3 valve. 230-240 would be plenty for me. I would be interested in a torquey engine with better gas mileage. A V6 diesel just might do that for me. I do mostly around town with an occaisional tow of a 2500lb pop up camper.
I currently own a '89 F-150 2WD that I pull that camper with. I don't know what the HP on that old 5.0 liter is, but I'm betting it's in the160-170 range. That does the trick enough for me, but towing sucks.
I just got back from england the day before, I would say that 75% of there autos over there are diesel's and run great. I rented a land rover freelander with the TD4 turbo 4 cylnder, It ran SUPER had loads of power and got 37-40 mpg, went to the land rover driving school where they had the 110 with the TD5 turbo 5 cylnder and WOW power to boot so much torque that in low 1st at idal it will climb good hills. Now why cant we here in the US get these same motors small torquey diesels. I would love to inport one but our dot will not allow them in...no air bags...what crap...
Did you see the part about John Deere? It would be awesome to see a JD diesel in a Ford Truck, the competition would crap in their pants if that happened.
YEah. A big old yellow catapilar diesel in an F-350 Dually!!!!!! Drool, Drool. I winder if a custom swap could be done. If so. I would consider taking on that project!!
