Have been looking into an 03 7.3 4x4 excursion with issues with transmission and gem module would like to know anything anyone has to say as far as the 4r100 transmission in a 73 and anything they know about placement of a gym module on an 03
You should have the option of trade it/ use as a core.
we don't have any info from you, so it depends on what you need.
I got a BTS tranny years ago because I knew i would be doing bigger injectors and turbo, etc. My tranny should be "bulletproof". No issues and handles any power I throw at it
I believe CNCfab as well as other places carry Sam Wyse tranny's and you buy whatever stage you need for your application.
The 4R100 is good enough for a stock truck but there are components that benefit from upgraded parts/ versions.
I would rebuild my transmission myself. But this isnt something i am afraid to tackle. I have a place to do it and a wide range of tools and weapons.
The 03 doesnt have a gem module, it has a vsm. Different beast.
If the price is right and you want a project i would say pull the trigger (and a giant 20 year old suv makes sense in your life). That said, i dont buy projects i cant drive home...
I am an Electronic tech, with decades of mechanical experience, dad was a shop teacher and Tool and Die maker.... we fixed a lot of broken cars when I was living under his roof.

I have watched a ton of videos on over-hauling auto trannys, no thank you.
buying a car/truck?
it better run smooth as glass, or I walk away.
